Campaign themes

2016

Cline's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

A Unique City:

  • All Tacomans, whether new to the area or longtime area residents want to see our beloved city grow while maintaining its unique and historical place among other Puget Sound cities. One of the many city traits that we all value is our diversity of thought, culture, lifestyle, and legacy of civil rights. Tacoma and its residents should be proud to say they live and work here. We have succeeded in our District by expanding areas of primary education and opportunities for higher learning. It's my goal to expand even more the opportunities for all student populations in every neighborhood that comprise our District. Let's also continue to support the local and world renowned artists that reside in our creative community; they also help define our great city.

Growing Our Economy:

  • Our city is poised to grow even more in the decade to come. Despite this positive outlook each year partisan gridlock, personal pride and all too often a general lack of respect for the average voter hurt's Tacoma's ability to stand out and stand up for itself legislatively in Olympia. It's important that your next Senator of the 27th District focus more intently on the concerns of Tacoma, seeking to increase the educational, economic and employment opportunities for all its residents.

Focus on Business:

  • My platform as a result is focused on being a strong proponent of small and large businesses, increased commitment entrepreneurship and wage sustainability. It is important for the city to seek to increase its employment sectors and have a better designed city to attract long term investment. Let's seek to increase employment opportunities for Tacoma residents in all ages at all stages of life.
  • Let's together attract and help draw even more businesses to invest and relocate here for the long term. I seek to have fewer barriers for business growth and entrepreneurial endevours. Making it easier to start and grow a business here in Tacoma, this is a major goal of mine as your next Senator for the #27th District.

Livability of Tacoma:

  • Growing the urban core is vital for Tacoma's present and future success moving forward as a city. Still we must seek to maintain a strong commitment to environmental awareness and education. Moving goods and services should not negatively impact our citizens ability to walk, ride, bike, run or drive. Let's continue to support and promote the great, local, and world renowned artists that reside and work in here; this creative community helps also to define our great city.
  • Tacoma's livability is related to the health and wellness of it's water and soil. Whether the topic is fishing, urban farming or shipping through the Port, we seek to respect and use wisely our resources.

Safe Streets, Lower Crime:

  • Addressing current crime rates locally and regionally will be a key component of my leadership while in Olympia. This means keeping a commitment to helping local neighborhoods and law enforcement officials continue their collaboration efforts to bring people together for the safety of all. Let's also seek to uplift and build up our young people and youth populations as they navigate life and educational choices along the way. The #27th District is a community that seeks to improve the ways in which the city can better respond to its homeless and mental health outreach efforts. Maintaining and fostering safer streets needs to be at the forefront of ensuring Tacoma's livability as a city.
  • Personally I'm committed to supporting, honoring and recognizing the tireless and selfless work of our local first responders. Police/LE, Firefighters and Emergency services workers need to know we care and support their public service efforts to protect our city and it's residents.[1]
