“ | Education
Virginia is blessed to have some of the best schools in the nation. Unfortunately that success story is not consistent across the Commonwealth, and we are seeing several of our schools in Chesterfield fall behind. As a Realtor, I know firsthand that a school district is the linchpin to a community. When a school starts underperforming, the desire to live in that school district declines and housing prices start to drop. I have a vision for Chesterfield where we build up our underperforming schools in the county to ensure that all our residents have access to a quality public education. With a robust public education and community college system, we will give our children the opportunity to put their best foot forward. Whether their next step is a four year college or immediate entry into the job market, we will give our employers a skilled, competent workforce that will attract quality jobs to Chesterfield. Transportation The demand for public transportation in Chesterfield is large and growing. A better transit system will reduce congestion on our roads and give us the mobility and independence to choose among more places to work, shop and live. As your delegate I will work to expand public transportation further into the county to further invest in Chesterfield and welcome local travelers. Economy For years during the Warner and Kaine administrations, Virginia was named the best state for business. Chesterfield needs an economy that works for everyone: businesses, employees and consumers. A well-educated community with strong career skills encourages entrepreneurs to start businesses and provides the customers to keep them thriving. Fair and Equal Pay Everyone deserves fair pay for their work. Nobody who works full time should have to live below the poverty line, and nobody should be paid less for their work because of their gender. That’s why I support a raise in the minimum wage and equal pay laws that ensure women are paid the same as men for doing the same job. Government Accountability Virginians deserve government that holds itself accountable to the people. For too long our legislature has been open to unethical influences by lobbyists and special interests. Meanwhile, our legislators create their own job security through gerrymandering. As your delegate I will not accept gifts from lobbyists. I will fight for stronger ethics reform and campaign finance reform, and push to explore non-partisan methods of redistricting.[2][3] |
