Marvin D. Bagley

Marvin D. Bagley is an administrative judge for the Utah Sixth Judicial District.[1] Bagley was appointed to this position in January 2009 by Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. and retained in 2012. His current term expires in 2018.[2]
Education
Bagley received his J.D. from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark School of Law in 1985.[2]
Career
After earning his degree, he worked as a law clerk for the United States District Court for the District of Nevada. He then practiced law as an associate and shareholder of the firm of VanCott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy in Salt Lake City. Bagley worked at his own private practice firm in Richfield from 1994 to 2009, which included service as county attorney for Piute and Wayne counties as well as a prosecutor for several other cities. Bagley was appointed to the Sixth District Court in January 2009.[2]

2012
Bagley stood for retention election in 2012. On November 6, 2012, Bagley was retained with 82.6% of the vote and a total of 18,194 votes.[3][4]

Judicial Performance Evaluation recommendation
The Utah Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission compiled information from attorneys, court staff and jurors about the performance of all judges up for retention in 2012. Judges were evaluated based on five criteria.
A judge must score at least 3 out of 5 in each of these categories to meet the minimum performance standard. 51 attorneys responded to the following questions.
- Legal Ability: 4.17
- Communication: 4.16
- Integrity: 4.38
- Judicial temperament: 4.41
- Administrative: 4.38
