Mary Ann Cohen is an Article I federal judge for the United States Tax Court. She joined the court in 1982 after a nomination from President Ronald Reagan. She served as chief judge from June 1, 1996, to September 23, 1997. Her term ended in 1997 and she was reappointed by Bill Clinton on November 7, 1997. Cohen resumed her post as chief judge and served as chief until May 31, 2000. On October 1, 2012, Cohen took on senior status.[1][2]

Education

Cohen earned her B.S. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1964 and her J.D. from the University of Southern California School of Law in 1967.[2]

Professional career

Prior to joining the court, Cohen practiced with the firm Abbott & Cohen.[2]

Judicial career

Tax Court

Cohen was nominated to the United States Tax Court by President Ronald Reagan and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. She joined the court on September 24, 1982. She served as chief judge from June 1, 1996 to September 23, 1997. Her term ended in 1997 and she was reappointed by President Bill Clinton on November 7, 1997. She resumed her post as chief judge and served as chief until May 31, 2000. On October 1, 2012, Cohen took on senior status.[2]
