Mary Cathryn Ricker
Mary Cathryn Ricker was the Minnesota commissioner of education. Gov. Tim Walz (D) appointed Ricker on December 20, 2018.[1] Ricker resigned on April 1, 2021.[2]
Biography
Before becoming the state education commissioner, Ricker was the executive vice president of the American Federation of Teachers. She was elected to that position in July 2014. From 2005 to 2014, Ricker was president of the Saint Paul (Minn.) Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 28, becoming vice president in 2012. Ricker taught in St. Cloud and St. Paul, Minnesota, in Camas, Washington, and in Seoul, South Korea.[3]
Education
Ricker earned her undergraduate degree in English with a mathematics minor at the University of Saint Thomas. She completed her graduate work in Teacher Leadership at the University of Minnesota.[1]
