I am a 4th generation South Dakotan. I was born in Vermillion, and raised on the family farm. I learned responsibility and the value of hard work at a young age by working hard. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and Business Administration and with my work experience and family orientation, I'm confident I'll be an effective legislator, good listener, and problem solver.

I am married to John Fitzgerald, Lawrence County State's Attorney and we have three grown children. All have law degrees from USD School of Law. We also have 5 grandchildren.

Currently I serve as the Chair of the Lawrence County Republican Party.
  • I pledge to put families first and to protect and preserve our state for future generations.
  • Committed to job creation. I want our children and grandchildren to remain in South Dakota.
  • I support smaller government, keeping taxes low, and fiscal responsibility.
I strongly support Article II of our State Constitution establishing the three separate branches of government that act as checks and balances on each other. I'll defend Article VI of our Bill of Rights, the Freedom of Religion, and the Right-to-Bear Arms. I know that "family" is our most important institution; it's where most learning takes place. Education is vitally important to me; all three of our children hold law degrees. I also pledge to protect the lives of the unborn. I understand that power come from the people, and exists for their protection and benefit.
I'm a good listener. I have zero ties to political interests. I have no political agenda, nor any financial interests to promote. I've got the grit and determination to complete what I start.
1. To be truthful, honest and transparent.

2. Be attuned, and care about your constituents. Be interested and engaged in their needs.
3. Make decisions only after prudent consideration

4. Work hard and always do your best.
My first job off the farm was working as a waitress for Country Kitchen in Vermillion. It was a great job. This job taught me how to connect and communicate with people. It was a great learning experience.
No, I do not. Work ethic and a drive to do an excellent job are the most important traits one can possess.
Our biggest challenge will be to create jobs so that our families can remain in South Dakota.
Yes, in order to work together it is vitally important that we work together as a team. No one person has all the answers, and collaborating on issues and working together creates solutions to many problems.
At this point, I would enjoy working on most any committee. Some have mentioned that I would be a great fit in appropriations.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in South Dakota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
