Mary Hamway was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 28 of the Arizona House of Representatives. She ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in 2014.

Hamway's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Jobs and Economic Development

  • As State Representative, I will focus on reducing burdensome regulations that hinder job growth so we can foster job creation and continue building a healthy economy.

Education

As a State Representative, I will support policies that focus on early childhood development, after-school programs, STEM, increasing the use of technology in classrooms and rewarding excelling teachers and schools.

State Government

  • As a State Representative, I will support policies that focus on streamlining and consolidating government processes, expanding the use of technology and lessening the grip state government has on resources and programs that local governments can manage better.

Immigration

  • As a State Representative, I will work with fellow legislators to continue improve security at ports of entry and expand the use of technology and E-Verify.[1]

Elections for the Arizona House of Representatives took place in 2016. The primary election took place on August 30, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was June 1, 2016.[3] Incumbents Eric Meyer (D) and Kate Brophy McGee (R) did not seek re-election.

Kelli Butler and Maria Syms defeated Mary Hamway in the Arizona House of Representatives District 28 general election.[4][5]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was May 28, 2014. Incumbent Eric Meyer was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Kate Brophy McGee and Shawnna Bolick defeated Mary Hamway in the Republican primary. Meyer and McGee defeated Bolick and Zhani Doko (L) in the general election.[8][9][10][11]
