An effort to recall Mary Prisco from her position as Boise County clerk in Idaho was launched in February 2016.[1]
The recall petition accused Prisco of "lack of participation and negligence for implementing security procedures of taxpayers dollars, lack of managerial/leadership skills within her departments and not providing adequate supervision of her employees."[2] These allegations stemmed from two separate incidents of stolen county funds in 2015. Two county employees were fired after $1,700 went missing as it was transferred from the clerk's to the treasurer's office. In the second incident, Rana Klingner, who worked in the clerk's office, was charged with two felony counts of grand theft in October 2015. She allegedly stole almost $47,000 over two years.[1]
The recall petition was started by a group of six people, including former county commissioners Vicki Wilkins and Barbara Balding, and it was certified on February 11. Prisco was elected to her position in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014 after running unopposed.[1]
The recall effort failed when supporters fell 86 signatures short of collecting the necessary amount of signatures by the deadline.[3]

Recall proponents needed to collect 843 valid signatures within 75 days of its certification, which was on February 11.[1] The number of required signatures was determined by calculating 20 percent of the number of persons that voted in the last preceding election for the office of the incumbent being recalled. Upon the deadline to turn in the petition, proponents were 86 signatures short of getting the recall on the ballot.[3]
