Ridder ran in the fifth district of the Nebraska Public Service Commission. She faced incumbent Jerry Vap in the May 10 primary election. Ridder narrowly defeated Vap by 57 votes out of over 43,500 total votes cast.[2] No Democratic candidates filed to run for the seat, making Ridder the presumptive winner of the November 8 general election.
