Mary W. Sheffield was a judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals Southern District. She assumed office on December 3, 2012. She left office on July 25, 2025.

Sheffield was appointed to the court by Democratic Governor Jay Nixon on December 3, 2012, to fill a vacancy left by retired Judge Robert Barney.[1]

Education

Judge Sheffield received her bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University in 1976 and her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1980.[2][1]

Career

Court of Appeals bid

Sheffield was one of 23 applicants who filed to fill a vacancy on the Missouri Court of Appeals. The Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission recommended Sheffield and two other candidates to the governor.[3] On December 3, 2012, Governor Jay Nixon announced that he had selected Sheffield as the new appellate judge.[1]

Elections

2014

Sheffield was retained to the Court of Appeals with 69.2 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [4] 

2010

Sheffield ran unopposed and was re-elected to the circuit court on November 2, 2010, receiving 100% of the vote.[5][6]

2004

Sheffield was elected as a judge for the 25th Circuit Court.[1]
