What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
1 Address the most urgent concerns (cost of living, traffic, homelessness) 2. Protect our Constitutional rights many of which are under attack 3. Increase the number of doctors, teachers and increase housing -- all these areas are experiencing shortages in Hawaii.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am a retired Navy Captain. I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the USA and continue to consider that mission of the highest priority.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
I recommend everyone read the essay "Love Letter to America" by Tomas Schuman to understand the dynamics of what is occurring in the USA.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Elected officials must be truthful, honest and trustworthy and willing to stand-up and speak-out for the people they represent.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I set goals and persevere until I achieve them.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Do the right thing -- always.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Hawaii has significant unfunded liabilities and is making little progress in finding a solution.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Yes, it is important to build relationships -- in politics and every other part of life.
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
One constituent shared the background of his escape from a communist country and his concern that the younger generation in the USA is embracing socialism with little understanding of the oppressive nature of that type of government.
