Marybel Batjer
Marybel Batjer was the president of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the nonpartisan body charged with regulating the state's utility companies. She was appointed to this position by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on July 12, 2019, and she took office on August 16 of the same year. She succeeded Michael Picker. She retired on December 30, 2021.[1]
The California Public Utilities Commission is a quasi-executive agency in the California state government. The commission regulates the state's privately owned electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies.[2]
Biography
Prior to her appointment, Batjer was the first Secretary of the California Government Operations Agency. She also served as Vice President for Public Policy and Corporate Social Responsibility at Caesars Entertainment Inc.
Batjer's experience also includes serving as cabinet secretary to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from 2003 to 2005, chief of staff to Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn from 2000 to 2003 and undersecretary at the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency from 1997 to 1998.[3]
