The Massachusetts State Auditor is a state executive position in the Massachusetts state government. The auditor's office is responsible for conducting financial, performance and technical audits of state programs, departments, agencies and other uses of public money.[1]

The current officeholder Suzanne Bump, a Democrat who was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018.[2]

Authority

The office of the state auditor is established by Part I, Title II, Chapter 11, Section 1 of the General Laws of Massachusetts:[3]

There shall be a department to be known as the department of the state auditor under his supervision and control, organized as provided in this chapter.

Qualifications

According to Article XVII of the Massachusetts Constitution, an executive officer of the commonwealth must "have been an inhabitant of this commonwealth five years next preceding his election or appointment."[4]
