Massachusetts Probation Commissioner receives suspension
May 26, 2010
Massachusetts: On Monday, May 24, Massachusetts Probation Commissioner John O’Brien received a court suspension from his job along with an investigation of the agency’s hiring and promotion of probation officers. The announcement for the suspension was made by Chief Justice Margaret Marshall and Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert Mulligan, who wrote, "We are deeply concerned with not only the proper administration of the Probation Department, but with how such reports may affect the public’s perception of the integrity of all aspects of the judicial branch."[1]
Governor Deval Patrick expressed his approval of the court's decision to intervene in the practices of what he called an "unaccountable and to some extent rogue agency." O'Brien has denied accusations of running a "rogue agency."[1]
