Massachusetts: The Massachusetts Supreme Court, on Friday, April 2, upheld a lower court ruling that allowed the firing of a civilian chemist from a police laboratory without arbitration. Robert Pino was fired for allegedly mishandling evidence, but the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists filed a grievance saying that he was fired for union activities. They also claimed he had a right to arbitration afforded to him by union labor agreements, however, the state Supreme Court said they he was not entitled to arbitration because he was a civilian employee.[1]
