The Massachusetts Secretary of State election took place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent William F. Galvin (D) was first elected in 1994 and was running for re-election in 2014. He won another four-year term by defeating Republican candidate David D'Arcangelo and Green-Rainbow Party candidate Danny Factor.
A primary election is an election in which registered voters select a candidate that they believe should be a political party's candidate for elected office to run in the general election. They are also used to choose convention delegates and party leaders. Primaries are state-level and local-level elections that take place prior to a general election. Massachusetts utilizes a semi-closed primary system where voters who are affiliated with a political party and unaffiliated voters may vote in a party's primary.[1]
