- Excerpt: "I believe the issue of liberty or freedom from government is at the core of all decisions made in St Paul and Washington DC. Many of our politicians want to pass law as measure of accomplishment to show people they are working hard and earning your vote."

- Excerpt: "In my first term, I will only take a salary equal to my property tax. My goal is to stand on my own while also serving you for small fee."

Ashley ran in the 2012 election for Minnesota House of Representatives District 63B. He ran unopposed in the Republican primary on August 14 and was defeated by ncumbent Jean Wagenius (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
