Matt Carle is a Republican political strategist operating in the state of Ohio. As of May 2016, he was the executive director of John Kasich's (R) super PAC, New Day for America.[1] Carle previously worked on U.S. Senate campaigns for George Voinovich (R-Ohio) and Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) as well as Kasich's 2014 gubernatorial re-election. He was also the director of legislative affairs in Kasich's gubernatorial staff.[2]

Career

In 2004, Matt Carle worked as the campaign manager for George Voinovich's campaign for re-election to the U.S. Senate.[3] Voinovich won the race with 64 percent of the votes.[4]

Carle was also the campaign manager for Mike DeWine's 2006 U.S. Senate re-election campaign.[5] DeWine lost the general election to Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown.[6]

In 2010, Carle was a Republican candidate for District 20 of the Ohio House of Representatives. Carle was defeated in the November 2 general election by incumbent Nancy Garland (D).[7]

In 2011, Carle joined the staff of John Kasich as Kasich's director of legislative affairs, where he helped "develop the governor’s policy agenda and secure its support in the General Assembly."[8] Carle left this position in 2014 to run Kasich's re-election campaign.[2]

On May 5, 2015, Cleveland.com reported that Matt Carle had left John Kasich's staff to manage New Day for America, originally established as Kasich's 527 group in April 2015. The report also noted that this move "signals a big role for Carle if Kasich runs. Carle could find himself in charge of the campaign itself or with a group that could promote Kasich's candidacy but not coordinate with the campaign."[1]

Kasich announced his bid for the presidency on July 21, 2015.[9] In late July, New Day for America filed with the FEC as a Super PAC.[10] Kasich suspended his presidential campaign on May 4, 2016.[11]
