Daly's website highlighted the following campaign themes:
“ | TRANSPARENCY
I believe that constituents have the right to know what issues their Senator is voting on, and why they have taken a particular stance. When elected officials are not forthcoming about their motivations, it damages the trust of their constituents and the integrity of the office. As Senator, I will pledge to write, and publish an explanation of my decision for each vote. EDUCATION REFORM As a state we have made good strides in recent years, but there is more that we can do. As a state we need to increase the availability of vocational training options in high schools, specifically through expanding apprenticeship programs. An excellent start would be supporting of SB 406 to repeal state fees for apprenticeships. Additionally, I think that personal finance classes should be added to the required State Curriculum, with business finance/small business operation classes available to students. Finally, our state is losing teachers at an alarming rate, and we need to look for fiscally responsible ways to increase teacher pay, like cutting back on costly bureaucracy through automation and de-centralization of current administrative systems. ANNEXATION I support efforts that would require all issues of annexation be handled at a local level before it is passed up to the state level. As it stands, it is far too easy for special interest groups to work with the State to overrule the will of the people in local matters. OPPOSE TOLL LANES I am opposed to toll lanes added at taxpayer expense. Traffic can and should be relieved without toll lanes. Citizens will either be refused access to roads paid for in part by a projected $95 Million in taxpayer dollars, or subjected to inordinate double taxation for a benefit they should see already. RESTORE TAX BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS Volunteer firefighters, rescue squad workers, and volunteer hazardous material team members in North Carolina provide a valuable service to their community, often at great personal risk, and should benefit from tax deductions similar to those offered in neighboring states. REPEAL THE MAP ACT The Map Act allows the State to virtually indefinitely prevent property owners from using and improving their land without compensation, serving only to exacerbate the already intrusive process of Eminent Domain by interfering with the right of Citizens to use their land before it has been condemned by the State. Even though recent strides have been made for citizen's rights in the courts, it's a bad law, and should be repealed entirely. ELIMINATE THE INCOME TAX Job growth during the Recession in the nine states with no income tax was 5.5%, versus close to zero in the average state, and -1.6% in the highest tax states. (Source: Laffer Center) END CORPORATE WELFARE Corporate welfare must be ended. Not only is it in direct opposition to the principles of free trade, but more than half of programs receiving aid from Job Development Investment Grant in North Carolina have failed. Instead, we should look to broaden an already business friendly environment through reduced taxes.[1][2] |
