I’m Matt Evans, born and raised right here in Phoenix, where I’ve built a life centered around family, community, and a deep love for this city. As a proud parent of three amazing children—Ryder, Phoenix, and Oakley—I’ve dedicated myself not only to their future but to ensuring that Phoenix remains a place we can all be proud to call home.

My journey began at Arizona State University, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Today, I bring my expertise to the tech industry as a Sr. DevOps Engineer, specializing in building resilient infrastructures, troubleshooting complex challenges, and ensuring systems run smoothly. It’s a role that’s taught me the importance of problem-solving and innovation—skills I’ll bring to my work for the people of Phoenix.

Personally, I find joy in showing miniature bull terriers and exploring the great outdoors with my family. Whether it’s fishing, hiking, photography, or simply enjoying our city’s beautiful parks, I cherish every moment spent reconnecting with nature and creating memories with those I love.

My decision to enter politics wasn’t planned—it was born out of frustration and determination. When faced with the possibility of leaving Phoenix due to rising challenges, I refused to give up. I realized our streets needed cleaning up, and our laws needed strong enforcement. I believe that politicians should serve the people, not special interests or campaign donors.
  • Addressing the Homelessness Crisis with Compassion and Strong Leadership: Under Mayor Kate Gallego, Phoenix has faced a DOJ investigation, rising homelessness, unaffordable housing, and unsafe, drug-filled streets. While we must move away from the "homelessness is not a crime" narrative and protect working-class residents who want safe, clean neighborhoods, I will also ensure we remain compassionate toward those who need help. My goal is to restore order while offering real solutions to those in need
  • Transparency, Accountability, and Data-Driven Decisions: Public trust has eroded under Mayor Gallego, with slow public records requests and secret communications through apps like Signal. I will make decisions based on data, ensuring transparency and accountability. By providing real-time access to city data, I will eliminate the need for public records requests and give citizens the information they have a right to access. With my Sr. DevOps Engineer background, I’ll create dashboards that keep the public fully informed and involved in city governance.
  • Pro-Growth, Transportation for All, and Focus on Education: I am committed to creating a business-friendly environment that promotes growth and opportunity for Phoenix. A key part of this vision is expanding downtown with more sports teams while ensuring transportation works for all of Phoenix. The current DEI-driven routes for the light rail are not serving the needs of the entire city. We need practical, inclusive transportation solutions that benefit all residents. Additionally, we must focus on improving our education system. Phoenix schools are underperforming, and we need to keep our youth on a path to success by providing them with the resources and opportunities they deserve.
Addressing the Homelessness Crisis:

I’m particularly passionate about solving the homelessness crisis because this is my hometown, and I want a safe and prosperous future for all families here—including my own. As a father of three, it’s deeply personal for me to make this city a place where our children can grow up in safe, clean neighborhoods. We need real solutions to homelessness that protect both our communities and those in need.
Working with my dad as a tile setter growing up. When I was 8, I worked every single day during my summer break with my dad so I could afford the new Sony Playstation. I'll never forget that summer. It instilled in me the value of hard work. I've never stopped working since I was a kid. I worked with my dad until I was 14 -15 until I started a part time job at Dairy Queen.
I'm a recovering opiate addict. I've been sober for 10 years as of February 21st, 2024. I know firsthand what it's like to lose hope and I know what it takes to survive the struggle and come out on the other end. This is a big reason behind why I feel compelled to make a difference in my city, to help others in the same position I once was in.
They should represent the people not their partisan agendas or their campaign donors.

I was born and raised in Phoenix and am proud of where I’m from. I’m raising my three children here because it’s my hometown and I love this city. I even named my son Phoenix! I’ve witnessed this city change so much over the years, some for the better and some for the worse. I always wanted my children to grow up in a place better than I did but right now I’m not sure that’s the case.

Homelessness is ravaging our city and spreading rapidly from the west side to the east side, all the way into Scottsdale. Corporate and local businesses are dealing with record numbers of theft and to make matters worse our local police departments are severely understaffed. Panhandlers are on nearly every street corner, traffic median, or freeway underpass. Short-term vacation rentals are taking over our neighborhoods, significantly lowering supply in the market, and contributing to record rental increases. I’ve spoken to many residents who are fed up with the noise and traffic that short-term vacation rentals bring into their neighborhoods.

I look forward to bringing a new perspective to our city council. Phoenix needs a fresh start. I represent the regular everyday hard-working Phoenician. Unlike my opponents, I don’t accept money from political action committees or special interests. This is a true grassroots campaign and I’m running for the people of Phoenix, the city I grew up in. You can follow my journey as I run for Phoenix City Council by following me on Instagram using the l

For years, our city council has failed to make homelessness a priority. Now, we’re dealing with the aftermath. My opponent, incumbent Jim Waring of District 2, has had 12 years to make homelessness a priority. He's never mentioned it during his campaign. There's nothing on his website about it and he hasn't posted anything about it on social media. We don’t have anyone in this city council that cares about homelessness. If I’m elected, that changes.

My opponent, Jim Waring, is running for a 4th term even though the Phoenix City Council has a three-term limit. This is due to a provision in that law that allows my opponent to consider his first term a “partial” term. I believe he should honor the true spirit of term limits and withdraw from the election. However, he has refused. It’s time to give someone else a chance to lead our city. We can’t have career politicians in the same office for 20 years because things will never change.

My opponent doesn't respect term limits but I know the voters will. Jim's had his chance. It's time for new leadership.
