Matt Helt was a 2012 Independent candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 2nd Congressional District of Nebraska. He lost to incumbent Lee Terry.[1]

Helt was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1975. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, and then transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he earned his B.A. He has worked as a project manager for Ameritrade. He works for a large ad agency in Omaha.[2]

Helt ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Nebraska's 2nd District. He faced Republican incumbent Lee Terry and Democrat John Ewing in the November general elections.
