Jackson was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 85 of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016. He ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in a 2015 special election.[1]

2015
A special election for the position of Oklahoma House of Representatives District 85 was called for September 8. A primary election took place on July 14.[6] The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was May 6, 2015.[7][6]
The seat was vacant following David Dank's (R) death.[7]
Cyndi Munson was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Chip Carter defeated Matt Jackson, Amy Palumbo and Ralph Crawford in the Republican primary.[1][8][9] Munson defeated Carter in the special election.[10]
