“ | What is your political philosophy?
I was born in Shawano, and my family moved to the Fox Cities when I was nine. After high school, I earned a bachelor of science from UW-Madison and then went to chiropractic school. I opened and owned my own chiropractic practice in the Fox Cities for almost five years, and I loved taking care of patients and helping them improve their health. Eventually, I decided to change careers and teach high school science, so I earned my teaching certificate from UW-Oshkosh and began to teach as a substitute in Freedom, Little Chute, and other schools districts. Unfortunately, Act 10 was then passed, resulting in a hiring freeze for almost all teachers. At the same time, my wife and I became parents of our first child. I have been a stay-at-home dad ever since, and we now have two amazing daughters. As a parent, I draw on the example set by my parents. Sadly, I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 11 years old. She was an occupational therapist who worked with the elderly and kids with special needs. My dad was a funeral director and the proud owner of a small business. He retired after 40 years of helping others through their most difficult and grief-filled times. I learned a lot from my parents, and their example of working hard and caring for others has shaped me into the person I am. So why am I running for the Wisconsin State Assembly? As the son of a small business owner, I grew up seeing the investment of hard work return dividends of a middle class lifestyle. I am running to create a fair tax structure where corporations and the very wealthiest pay their fair share, and I’m running to enact wage and labor laws that will ensure workers can live comfortable lives and send their kids to college. As a health care provider, I saw people struggling who didn’t qualify for Medicare or Medicaid but couldn’t afford health insurance either. I am running to ensure all Wisconsinites have access to affordable health care. As a teacher, I saw local school districts that literally couldn’t afford to keep their lights on. I am running to make sure our public schools — rather than foreign corporations — are a funding priority in our state. As a parent, I drive my kids around on roads in this district that are literally crumbling. I am running to ensure our infrastructure is maintained, because there’s nothing conservative about pushing repairs down the road while the problems multiply. As a homeowner whose kids drink well water from the tap, I’m running to make sure our groundwater is safe and corporations aren’t given free license to pollute our environment. As a resident of the Town of Center, I’ve talked to those in rural areas who have no access to the internet and who are being left behind as our society goes digital. I am running to make sure that everyone has access to broadband, so our rural areas can survive and thrive. I’m not a politician, but I don’t see the values my parents taught me – the values I’m teaching my kids – being reflected by those in power in Wisconsin, and it’s time for that to change. I will fight for you, for your kids, for your friends, and for your neighbors when I’m elected to the Wisconsin Assembly.[2] |
