Matt McCoy (b. March 29, 1966) is a former Democratic member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 21 from 1997 to 2019. He previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1992 to 1996.

Biography

McCoy earned his B.A. from Briar Cliff College in 1988. His professional experience includes working as Vice President of Community Development for Downtown Development Corporation.

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014. Incumbent Matt McCoy was unopposed in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[1][2][3][4]

McCoy won re-election to the 31st District Seat in the Iowa State Senate, defeating Republican candidate Dave Leach. McCoy defeated Leach by a margin of 13,385 to 7,064.

McCoy had no opposition in the Democratic primary election on June 8th.[5]

2006

On November 7, 2006, McCoy was re-elected to the 31st District Seat in the Iowa State Senate, defeating Nicholas G. van Patten.[6] McCoy raised $263,357 for his campaign, while van Patten raised $66,143.[7]
