Matt has lived in Brevard County since 2001. He is an eleven-year resident of Suntree, where he lives with his wife, Natalia, and their two dogs Lily and Cookie.

Matt works as a Regional Director for Verteks Consulting, a leading provider of voice and data networks. He has worked with both small businesses and government entities during his 30-year career in technology and understands the challenges both sectors face.

Matt has been a member of the Rotary Club of Suntree since 2010 and has served as Treasurer since 2017. The club named him "Rotarian of the Year" in 2019.

Matt has played a leadership role in local politics since 2007. He is a precinct committeeman for the local Republican Executive Committee, founded the local Republican Liberty Caucus in 2008, organized the Brevard Tea Parties in 2009, and has served as the National Chair of the Republican Liberty Caucus since 2013.

Matt believes government should be limited, transparent, and accountable. He has established himself as a local watchdog. He filed the criminal complaint that led to the arrest of former Clerk of Courts Mitch Needelman and his associates Matt Dupree and Rose Harr.

Matt is an experienced leader who believes the job of a State Representative is to listen to and serve the people.
  • I will listen to, and be responsive to, the constituents of District 52.
  • I will fight to re-open the economy and reduce burdensome regulations on small businesses.
  • I will fight to keep spending and taxes low, and I will start by working to repeal the commercial lease tax.
I am deeply concerned about the way the government has handled the response to COVID-19. Politicians are playing Russian roulette with people's livelihoods by picking and choosing which businesses can remain open and which cannot.

We're told Wal-Mart and other corporate chains are essential businesses, but locally owned stores are not. In other states some politicians have gone so far as to tell you which goods at Wal-Mart are essential, and which are not; as if the virus can tell what aisle you are shopping on.

This kind of dictatorial control is not only unconstitutional, it is outrageous. The Founders are rolling in their graves.

Our economy here on the Space Coast, as well as across the state, is in big trouble. The government's response to COVID-19 has devastated small businesses around the state and unemployment in Brevard has risen from 2.7% in December of last year to 12.6% in May.

Many of these small businesses are gone forever, and many of the people now unemployed can't get their unemployment because Florida's dilapidated unemployment system could barely keep up before the outbreak, much less now that claims have more than quadrupled.

If elected, I will go to Tallahassee and fight for the small businesses and families being destroyed by the government overreach happening in the name of COVID-19, and I will work to drain the swamp of political elites that believe they get to live by one set of rules while you and I live by another.
On the National scene I look to Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Thomas Massie. All are principled Constitutional Conservatives that have pushed back hard on both the left and the big government tax and spend RINO Republicans.

Locally, my mentor was Clerk of Courts Scott Ellis. Scott has dedicated himself to serving the taxpayers by acting as a watchdog for the county for a couple of decades now. He is an inspiration to me and a lot of other people here, and one of the primary reasons I became involved in politics back in 2007.

A Servant's Heart
I'm a good listener. I'm empathetic. I am reasonable, and I take a data-driven approach to solving problems. I'm a very fair-minded individual and I try to see both sides of the issues.

I am also tenacious when I dig into something, and under the tutelage of mentor Scott Ellis I have developed a "spidey-sense" that tells me when something doesn't seem right.

I've worked to act as a citizen watchdog and hold government officials accountable when I am able.

Back in 2012 I filed the criminal complaint that resulted in the arrest of former Clerk of Courts Mitch Needelman and his associates in a bid rigging scheme that cost Brevard taxpayers $8 million. I've filed numerous ethics complaints against sitting elected officials that resulted in guilty pleas and thousands of dollars in fines.
To listen to and serve the constituents in the district. The incumbent has become completely unresponsive and doesn't even return calls.
Just that I made my parents proud, and that I left the better world a better place than when I came into it.
Reagan being shot. I was in elementary school and I remember my mom picking me up and telling me the president had been shot. I didn't really understand the ramifications of that, but I remember the frightened tone in her voice - it was something that stayed with me.
I worked at a Burger King for about six months. I started running the grill and rapidly advanced to the most desirable position short of management - working the drive through window.

After that I went to work at Bill Knapp's restaurant as a bus boy, and after that I laid tile for a summer.

Those work experiences were formative - they made me decide I was not cut out for retail or manual labor, so I focused on technology and communications when I went to the local community college.

Atlas Shrugged. It's a magnificent work. Rand does a brilliant job of concretizing her philosophy in story form. She doesn't tell, she shows. The characters are so real you can point to real-life examples of them in the world today. Sadly, the political events that she described are unfolding in front of us right now, and I'm not aware of a real-life Galt's Gulch to flee to.
The Ellington AC jingle from their radio commercial... radio advertising works!
I am a perfectionist, and I frequently have to remind myself not to let perfection get in the way of the good.
The joke in Tallahassee is that the Senate is "where good bills go to die". The Florida House has been very conservative for the last decade, but the Senate is much less so, and a lot of good legislation has gone down in flames because it couldn't get out of a committee on the Senate side. My opponent served in the Senate and was personally responsible for sponsoring both the largest vehicle fee and registration increase in the state's history and red light cameras.
In the sense they know the landscape and the players, sure. I also think it can serve as an impediment, because if you get too friendly with others, you may not advocate for bills as vigorously as you should because they put your peers in a a difficult spot.
Yes, of course. You need to be a team player to get things done, especially with your local delegation.
We've seen some truly ridiculous things done when it comes to redistricting. I've not gone to school on the specifics of the process, so I can't give a detailed answer, other than to say I would do my best to honor the intent of the law and I understand the definition of the word "contiguous" and what it means in that context.

Oversight, Transparency & Public Management
I think Rep Anthony Sabatini is doing an exceptional job. He is a true champion of liberty, and he is absolutely fearless when it comes to speaking truth to power. He is destined for great things.
I am looking to serve in whatever capacity the citizens of District 52 see fit. I don't have any plans for higher office, but wouldn't rule anything out. My focus right now is to get elected so I can serve the constituents in District 52.
I have spoken with a couple of Satellite Beach residents that have lost loved ones to cancer that appears to be related to the contaminants buried on and around the base many years ago. The stories are heartbreaking, and the fact that no real progress has been made on the problem is maddening. The people I spoke to told me Rep. Altman has done nothing, and they've had to reach out to Rep. Fine and Congressman Bill Posey for help. I think this is completely unacceptable.
