What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
1. Cut state spending, eapecially waste. 2. Expand parental choice when it comes to schooling and raising their children. 3. Reduce/eliminate taxes on individuals and businesses while slashing regulatory red tape that slows organic growth.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate with regard to unalienable liberties we citizens all possess. Many of these are under attack. Policies that directly inhibit religious expression, personal protection, and individual freedom & accountibility must be eliminated.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
On a historical and national level I admire US Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Calvun Cooledge, and Ronald Reagan. Their governance and political styles were commendable. Their ideas were realized through their boldness, tenacity, and acumen. However, they showed immense patience and grace?even toward those who disagreed ideologically.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
I would love more people to study the Bible, but in a secular capacity Ken Burns Civil War series from years back is stellar.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Authenticity, compassion, decisiveness, and persuasion are central.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I am authentic, opinionated, convicted, and diligent. My best leadership asset though is to delegate to others after identifying their unique gifts, talents, and abilities?often in areas I may be deficient.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Never compromise when convicted to stand your ground otherwise. Never put on a show for political gain.
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like Nevadans to have more wealth, responsibilities, and freedom when I'm long gone. To play even a small part in that would be amazing.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
The Challenger explosion when I was 8 or 9 rocked my world along with the Cold War peaking. Our leadership was excellent then, and I trusted them to do good.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was a soccer referee at age 14 and then a janitor at age 16 (1st W2 employment), and I did each about a year. Great jobs.
What happened on your most awkward date?
Not the place to speak on that one. Most dates are awkward as a teenager though. So pretty much any of them.
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Easter weekend is the greatest. Without that historical weekend, no one has hope.
What is your favorite book? Why?
The Bible is the best work of literature ever created. Despite being made fun of incessantly by strangers and friends alike, it honestly is.
If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?
That thought does not remotely cross my mind. It's like asking me what my favorite Celine Dion song is.
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
I love my living room because that is where the best memories are being created daily. My rocking chair and sectional sofa are awesome.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Wake up Little Susie by The Everly Brothers.
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
One struggle I've had is that once I excel and diligently perform and complete a task, I rest up a little bit too much afterward. There is too much to get done!
Every state besides Nebraska has two legislative chambers. What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?
The fact that every assembly seat is up every two years, makes members in the assembly capitulate possibly too much. I'd say the state Senate shows more stability.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
I don't think it is a great benefit nor hindrance. A good candidate would be a good candidate regardless.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
The greatest challenge is to avoid becoming exactly like California. At the rate we are going, we're going to start losing residents at a rapid pace. The tax climate and regulatory environment will become unstable if we don't right the course.
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?
There should be some healthy tension and checks and balances between the branches of government. However through concessions and consensus-building, we should get some good legislation.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
Sure because if I was going to persuade somebody of something, it would sure help if they weren't outright enemies with me. So yes there must be civility.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
On its face, it seems like a very complex problem to solve. There seems to be no easy solution that would satisfy all factions in our state.
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
I'd be happy to serve on any of them.
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
I admired Sharron Angle and her convictions. She was pretty fearless.
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
No not especially at this time. Serving in a more local capacity suits me fine.
Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
The neighbors in my district feel more unsafe now. They feel unsafe in terms of our economic future as well as crimes committed in their areas. Those are two priorities that must be addressed aggressively, and it really hits home when you hear them tell you their stories personally.
