Skopek was the 2014 Libertarian nominee for election to the office of Illinois Treasurer. The seat was open in 2014 because of Republican incumbent Dan Rutherford's decision to run for governor instead of re-election. He faced Democrat Mike Frerichs and Republican Tom Cross in the general election on November 4, 2014.
