Three at-large seats on the Fontana Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Two incumbents, Ayanna Blackmon-Balogun and Shannon O'Brien, ran against the following six challengers: Kareem Gongora, Germaine M. Key, Jesse Armendarez, Mary B. Sandoval, Matt Slowik, and Socorro Enriquez. Slowik, Armendarez, and Sandoval defeated the incumbents and other challengers to win the election.

Slowik highlighted the following vision on his campaign website:

  • Focusing on students, educating every student, and

improving student academic achievement;

  • All students being prepared for college, careers,

and a successful future at the time of high school graduation;

  • Providing teachers and classified employees with

the technology, training, equipment, and resources to educate our children;

  • Removing any structural, organizational, and/or

policy barriers to effective teaching/learning;

  • Continuing to defend and support the "After-

School Program";

  • Working with parents and the community to

strengthen trust in education;

  • Building and maintaining effective working

relationships with parents, all District staff, the community, and our partnering public and nonprofit organizations.[1]
