Campaign themes
2017
Teaford highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]
Education
- Excerpt: "I vow to stand with our educators and communities to give them all of the resources they need to grow and become successful adults. The children of this city will always be my first priority."
Childhood impoverishment
- Excerpt: "In a city where nearly half of the children live below the poverty line, I can't stand to the side and do nothing about it as health services are cut. If we're going to invest in the future, we have to take care of our children first."
Transparency
- Excerpt: "It's no secret that the government wastes a lot of money. What's worse is we can't track the money trail. Politicians will put in a haphazard effort into transparency, but it never comes through. I will develop a better, easy-to-understand website for the city to track down where their tax money is going and if it's being spent effectively."
Economic development
- Excerpt: "Cincinnati has seen a recent boom in attention thanks to our economic development. I want to continue this by investing energy and resources into small businesses and startups that will provide both jobs and community enrichment while bolstering our tourism to attract new residents and visitors."
Drug treatment reform
- Excerpt: "After losing my brother to a heroin overdose in 2011, I feel the pain that many do within our city. It effects all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds. I want everyone to know that helping those battling addiction and the effected families and communities is always going to be inherently important to me."
Inclusion
- Excerpt: "When I look around Cincinnati, I see so many unique, diverse individuals. It's not secret that diversity provides new perspective on issues. I want our city to be a place where everyone feels welcome and safe. I will always stand for LGBTQ, Women's Health, and Disability Rights for every citizen of our city. There's no place for hatred in a city as incredible in Cincinnati."
Fiscal responsibility
- Excerpt: "With Cincinnati's current budget crisis, we have to be speculative with spending. Wasteful spending without accountability is not acceptable. I will challenge any expenditure that doesn't have proof in the numbers. We have to be responsible to continue our city's growth while increasing our overall quality of life."
2016
Teaford issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:
“ | While in office, I hope to reform education, criminal justice, and transparency issues. I want to create an internal audit system that shows people where their tax money is going and if it's being spent efficiently. I live by the motto of: ""No taxation without transparency.""
In regards to education, I want to make sure that Kentucky's children don't leave school without having the necessary life skills needed to succeed as adults. I want to create mandatory classes that teach high school students about fiscal responsibility and how to problem solve real world situations among other things. Ultimately, I decided to run for this office because I love my state and see the potential we have to thrive. [7] |
