Matt Windschitl (Republican Party) is a member of the Iowa House of Representatives, representing District 15. He assumed office on January 1, 2023. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.

Windschitl (Republican Party) is running for election to the U.S. House to represent Iowa's 4th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the 2026 election.[source]

He served as majority leader from 2023 to 2025.[1]

Biography

Matt Windschitl was born in Marshalltown, Iowa. Windschitl served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2001 to 2009. His career experience includes working in doll distributing, as a gunsmith, and as a railroad conductor.[2]

Elections for the Iowa House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 14, 2014. Kenneth Mertes was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Matt W. Windschitl was unopposed in the Republican primary. Windschitl defeated Mertes in the general election.[7][8][9][10]

On November 4, 2008, Windschitl was re-elected to the 56th District Seat in the Iowa House of Representatives, defeating Jan Creasman (D).[14] Windschitl raised $45,297 for his campaign, while Creasman raised $8,120.[15]

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
