Matthew Blomstedt
Matthew Blomstedt was the Nebraska Commissioner of Education. Blomstedt assumed office in 2013. Blomstedt left office on January 3, 2023.
Biography
Before heading the Nebraska Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council, Blomstedt was a director for the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association. He was also a research analyst for the Nebraska Legislature's Education Committee.[1]
Education
Blomstedt has a doctorate in educational leadership and higher education. He completed the program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013.[1]
About the office
The Nebraska Commissioner of Education is a state executive position in the Nebraska state government. The State Board of Education appoints the commissioner, who serves as executive officer of the board and the administrative head of the State Department of Education.[2]

On December 12, 2013, Blomstedt was chosen by the Nebraska State Board of Education to be Nebraska's next education commissioner. “I want everyone to feel as passionate about education as I do,” Blomstedt said in an interview.[1]
