Cerra stated the following in a biographical submission to Ballotpedia.[1]

"I believe that America has always done its best when we invest in ourselves. Through proper education, investments in infrastructure and pushing ourselves to achieve the greatest heights of human achievement we have always done well. While in office I would like to set Arizona, and hopefully the nation by our example, towards a path of greater prosperity for the majority of Americans that work hard every day and are unable to really achieve the American Dream they were promised. I want to invest in road, rail, and telecommunications projects that will help our educators create a state that everyone knows is a leader in the sciences and will be creating the next big ""things"" for the global economy."

On an Arizona Chamber of Commerce Endorsement Questionnaire Cerra explained why he ran and what sets him apart from other candidates, stating:

"I have become ashamed of many of the aggressive and short-sighted laws passed in my home state. Arizona can be a leader in education, energy and high-end aeronautical sciences and the work being done is not pushing those goals." "I am not a single issue candidate. I do not support the "birther's" priorities. I fully support women's right to all the healthcare they need (including pre-natal care). And, I am for making public education as free as possible, which is the current state law.[2] "
