Matthew DeFalco was a candidate for Ward III representative on the Henderson City Council in Nevada. He was defeated in the primary election on April 4, 2017.

Although city council elections in Henderson are officially nonpartisan, DeFalco was listed by the Clark County Democrats as a Democratic candidate in 2017.[1]

DeFalco earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.[2]

DeFalco's professional experience includes work as a federal wild land firefighter and a soldier in the U.S. Army. In 2016, he worked to pass a ballot initiative to require firearm transfers to go through a licensed gun dealer and ran to be a Bernie Sanders delegate to the Democratic National Convention.[2][3]

DeFalco's 2017 campaign Facebook page listed the following priorities:[3]

We need new faces, and new ideas on the city council. I will focus on bringing integrity, accountability, and efficiency to city government. I will always look out for the best interests of the people in our community, and not the high powered lobbyists, shady developers, or friends and family of the mayor.[5]

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that DeFalco's 2017 campaign priorities were: "New economic development and continuing to diversify the local economy; increase transparency of council business and accessibility of local government; implement a veterans preference for city government jobs."[6]
