Hamel (Democratic Party) is running for re-election for Chesapeake City Commonwealth's Attorney in Virginia. He is on the ballot in the general election on November 4, 2025. The Democratic primary for this office on June 17, 2025, was canceled.

On November 5, 2024, Hamel announced that he had left the Republican Party.[1]
