Campaign themes

2017

Hooper highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

ONE NORTHWEST

Northwest ISD is comprised of over a dozen communities, each with its unique challenges and needs. The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees must partner with all communities to create "One Northwest" to meet each community's needs with the scale and efficiency of one ISD.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Northwest ISD must create both goals and success measures to ensure accountability to our long term strategic plans for growth and capacity, construction and facilities, safety and security, and student programs. Technology and infrastructure investments are going to be key to growth, but we must look for cost savings opportunities and rationalization for each budget line item. We must remain committed to ensure that every child is college and career ready by prioritizing individual academic success.

LEGISLATION
Northwest ISD must be a vocal advocate for our children, teachers, and schools at the state and federal level. We must continue to strategically partner with neighboring districts and business leaders to ensure our best interests are central to each legislative session.

FISCAL CHALLENGES
Northwest ISD is in a period of tremendous growth, and will be for the foreseeable future. With limited resources and levers to pull, we must be strong stewards of a balanced budget, stand cautious with taxation, and serve as determined advocates for education finance reform in Austin.

TEACHER RETENTION & DEVELOPMENT
Northwest ISD is a high-achieving district and we must continue to take a strong stance on recruiting and retaining highly qualified teachers. The labor market in DFW is competitive, creating challenges to attract, develop and retain the most talented teachers in the country. We must create attractive and comprehensive compensation packages, for new hires and experienced teachers alike. We must invest in professional learning for teachers, administrators and support staff so that they can provide transformative learning experiences for every single child.[5]
