Career

Matthew Hutson grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2003. He also attended the Leadership Institute’s Youth Leadership School and worked as an intern and field representative for the organization.[1][3]

Hutson worked on Andrew Harris’ congressional campaign in Maryland, and served as campaign spokesman for Jim Renacci’s 2009 congressional campaign in Ohio.[4] A year later, he worked as the GOTV strategist for Georgia public service commissioner candidate Tim Echols.[1]

In 2011, Hutson served as statewide director for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s re-election campaign.[1][5] He also contributed to Louisiana State Senate candidate Jonathan Perry’s (R) campaign, managed GOTV strategies for Lenar Whitney’s (R) Louisiana House bid and worked as GOTV consultant for Roger Williams’ (R) congressional campaign in Texas.[1]

Hutson served as central region director for Rick Santorum for president and co-founded Defend Louisiana (according to its website, the group is “a statewide campaign dedicated to giving Louisianians a voice in the defense of their right to protect their families”).[1][6][7]

In August 2012, Hutson was hired to work as campaign manager for Protect Marriage Maine, along with his wife, who was hired to be grassroots coordinator.[5]

Two years later, Hutson became campaign manager for Bruce Poliquin’s (R) U.S. Senate run, and as of December 2015, he serves as Poliquin’s chief of staff. He is also the owner of Hutson Consulting, a Louisiana-based political consulting firm.[8][9][10][11]
