Biography

Matthew Joyce was born in Dodge City, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University for undergraduate study. Joyce's career experience includes working as a senior integration lead with Spirit Aero Systems. He has been affilated with Derby Public Schools school board and with the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, IFPTE Local 2001.[1]

Matthew Joyce is an aerospace engineer, community volunteer, labor leader, and lifelong Kansan running to represent the 81st District in the Kansas House of Representatives. Born in Dodge City, Matthew was raised in Manhattan where his family moved when he was four. He attended Manhattan High School where he played football and ran track while participating in the the school Honor Society. After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Matthew moved to Derby in 1991 where he began working for Boeing in tool design. He later moved on to Cessna before returning to Boeing to work on military programs including Air Force One, the KC-135, the KC-46 Tanker, and the Air Borne Laser Program. Matthew moved to Spirit AeroSystems in 2006, where he currently works as a Senior Integration Lead. Matthew proudly serves as the Spirit SPEEA Council Representative (shop steward) in IFPTE Local 2001, and has led four contract negotiations on behalf of 1,000 engineers, and represents 2,500 engineers and technical workers in employee/employer disputes. Matthew also serves on the board of Derby Public Schools, having won reelection three times since 2009 while serving as Board President twice. He is married to his wife of 25 years, Kim, and together they have two adult daughters, Addison and Mayah. In his free time, Matthew enjoys volunteering, woodworking, and attending K-State football games.
As a 10-year member of the Derby School Board, I am most passionate about providing a quality education for Derby and Kansas kids.
