Matthew Milam
Matthew Milam (Democratic Party) was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, representing District 1. Milam assumed office on January 31, 2019. Milam left office on January 14, 2020.
Milam (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the New Jersey General Assembly to represent District 1. Milam lost in the general election on November 5, 2019.
Milam previously represented District 1 from 2008 to 2013. He resigned on February 28, 2013, in order to tend to his freight and cargo firm, Foundry Service Corporation.[1]
Biography
Milam's professional experience includes working as the vice-president of Miles and Company and president of Foundry Service Corporation.[2]

- A2464 Provides that reports and publications produced by State be primarily available on Internet, provides for notice of availability of reports and publications.
- A2983 Revises animal cruelty offenses concerning abuse, abandonment, neglect, and improper euthanizing of animals, increases criminal and civil penalties therefore; establishes such penalties for new offenses; repeals conflicting sections of law.[3]

Milam ran for re-election in 2011. He was bracketed with incumbent Nelson Albano in the Democratic Primary on June 7. They won unopposed in the primary. Suzanne Walters and Samuel Fiocchi defeated Peter Boyce and Paul Halley in the Republican primary.[4]

Speculation
PolitickerNJ noted that District 1 appeared to have Republican leanings--on paper. However, strong historical support for Senator Jeff Van Drew (D) called the predictive power of these figures into question. However, NJSpotlight noted that Republicans seemed to be focused on reclaiming the district's assembly seats. Nevertheless, redistricting weakened the Republican base in District 1.[5][6]
2009
Running for re-election in the 2009 general election, Milam defeated challengers Michael Donohue (R) and John A. McCann (R). He was bracketed with Nelson Albano (D).[7] [8]

On their shared campaign website, Milam, Nelson Albano, and Sen. Jeff Van Drew listed five major themes of their campaign:[9]
