Primary: Harris was successful in the primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 46.44 percent of the vote. He competed against Diane Ritchie and Annrae Angel.*
General: Harris defeated Diane Ritchie in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 53.7 percent of the vote. Because no candidate received over 50 percent of the vote in the primary, the race for this seat was decided in the general election. The two candidates with the most votes in the primary, Harris and Diane Ritchie, appeared on the November ballot.[1][2]

Education

Harris received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. He obtained his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1988.[3]

Career

Prior to his election, Harris was a deputy district attorney for the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office. He has also worked in private practice briefly and as a special assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s office.[3]
