Maureen Yates
Maureen Yates was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 6th Congressional District of Illinois. Yates was defeated by Leslie Coolidge in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012.[1]

On her campaign website, Yates had five leading issues that she was concerned about. They were:[3]
- Jobs: Excerpt: "I will sponsor job fairs, bringing together employers, both large and small, and persons seeking employment. I will provide tax incentives for employers providing full-time employment. I support public works projects such as infrastrucure repairs and upgrades (examples: mass transit, roads and bridges, water supplies, electric grid modernization). I support unions and collective bargaining. Union initiatives gave America’s middle class the 40 hour work week, child labor laws, workplace safety, vacations, sick leave, and insurance benefits."
- Education: Excerpt: "No Child Left Behind needs be reformed to focus on learning instead of test scores. Education officials need to work more closely with families to ensure children are doing their best. Lottery profits should be fenced off for the exclusive use of education."
- Afghanistan: Excerpt: "We should leave Afghanistan now. Our brave troops have met every demand we have placed on them. We should bring our troops home now."
- Social Security: Excerpt: "I am open to all plans for modernizing Social Security to keep it solvent for the future. I think the salary limit for contributions should be removed, and the retirement age determination formula should be made more flexible."
- Medicare: Excerpt: "I support healthcare reform, and am open to all plans to make care of seniors more efficient and effective. However, I reject any plan to abandon Medicare and replace it with discount coupons."
Elections

Yates ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 6th District. Yates sought the nomination on the Democratic ticket.[4] The signature filing deadline was December 27, 2011, and the primary took place on March 20, 2012.
Yates was defeated by candidate Leslie Coolidge in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012.[1]Incumbent Peter Roskam ran unopposed in the Republican primary and faced Coolidge in the general election on November 6, 2012.[1]
