Gates won re-election for the Position 25 judge of the Oregon 4th Judicial District Circuit Court outright in the primary on May 17, 2022, after the general election was canceled.
Gov. Kate Brown (D) appointed Gates to the court on February 22, 2022, to replace Kathleen M. Dailey.[1]
Biography
Education
Gates earned her bachelor's degree and law degree at Wayne State University.[1]
Career
Prior to serving as a judge, Gates was a public defender for over 25 years. She was a senior attorney in the Metropolitan Public Defender office. Gates has served on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Multnomah Bar Association. She has participated in Portland State University's Explore the Law program and was a co-trainer for the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association's Juvenile Immersion Training Program. Gates has been a Board Member on the National Juvenile Defender Center. She has also volunteered as a pro tem judge with the Multnomah County Family Law Judicial Settlement Program.[1]
