Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Gouron's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Supreme Court Appointments: With the death of Justice Scalia we now have 8 Supreme Court justices, four liberal and four conservative, and there are currently many contentious issues on the court’s docket. I believe we need to focus on confirming the 9th justice as soon as possible.
  • Border Security: Our borders need to be adequately patrolled to ensure that no one can enter our country without being properly screened. People entering our country should be screened based on an intelligent set of criteria and not on simple blanket rules that will only impact those who are not a threat.
  • Education: We are approaching an era of globalization. Top notch education for our children is critical in order to meet the inevitable demands of globalization.
  • Healthcare: Efforts in Congress to overturn Obamacare have failed and I do not propose to waste the taxpayers’ time and money in continuing these futile efforts. Instead I would focus on its shortcomings while still retaining its positive benefits.
  • Balancing the Budget: Revenue (such as taxation) and expenditures (such as social services and military expense) determine the state of the budget. I support adjusting the budget in order to reduce the deficit. This means either revenue has to be increased, or expenditures have to be reduced.
