Campaign themes

2014

Miller-Hooks' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Creating Jobs is a top priority

  • Excerpt: "When the topic of creating jobs arises, the discussion often turns to recruiting companies from out of state to locate in Nevada. While business recruitment is important, Max believes that the biggest impact on jobs can be made by making Nevada an easy place to start a small business. Small business creates the majority of new jobs, and this trend has been consistent for the past 40 years."

Compassionate Activism

  • Excerpt: "Max not only participates in efforts to help the community, but he organizes those efforts to bring out the best in others who want to help. Americans are some of the most generous people in the world, and if people see and understand how they can make a difference, our communities will transform for the better."
  • Excerpt: "This transformation cannot take place as government increases its role in ‘redistribution’ in an attempt to make everybody equal. Increased government role often creates two sides, one group rallying ever louder for increased support, and another group doing what it can to minimize exposure to increased government intervention. We are seeing the effects of this in our state and our nation today. It doesn’t work."

Low Taxes, Low Fees

  • Excerpt: "Since Nevada doesn’t have a personal or corporate income tax, it is sometimes considered a low tax state. Government has somewhat circumvented this by the imposition of high fees and the creation of licensing requirements that exist for the primary purpose of generating revenue for the state, versus any meaningful protection of the public interest. Max understands that taxes and fees are two sides of the same coin, and will work to ensure that both reasonable and as low as possible."
