Max Tobias
Max N. Tobias, Jr. was a judge on the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal from 2001 to 2016. He was elected to the court in 2000.[1] He did not run for re-election in 2016.[2][3]
Education
A native of New Orleans, Judge Tobias earned both his B.A. and his J.D. from Tulane University.
Career
Prior to his election to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal, Tobias was elected judge of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans (41st Judicial District) in 1986, 1990, and 1996. He was chief judge of this court from 1994 to 1996.
Awards and associations
When he served as a judge, Judge Tobias was a member of the following bars: Supreme Court of the United States; United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit; United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana; United States Tax Court; United States Court of Claims; and United States Court of International Trade.[4]
He became a member of the National Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts (formerly the National Consortium of Task Forces and Commissions on Racial and Ethnic Bias in the Courts) in 1992. He joined the board of directors in 2000 and became president of the board of directors in 2004. He also joined the Louisiana Task Force on Women in the Courts for the Consortium in 1990.
He became the co-chairperson and member of the Louisiana Task Force on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts in 1993.[4]
