I am an engineer, father, business owner in automotive manufacturing and currently serve on the Grosse Pointe Park City Council.

I have spent the last four years working diligently for our community. I have chaired the infrastructure committee, served on the public safety committee and personnel committee, I have also acted as the liaison to the business association.

My tenure has been focused on translating my experience running businesses into professionalizing the functioning of the city. I enjoy working with my peers to support the administration to best serve our residents.
  • Scope, I understand the role of city council and the nature of a city manager form of government. I was active and engaged in the city before I ever considered running, and I implicitly appreciate the authority and limitations of this position.
  • Resume, I have a broad and relevant resume to serve in this role. I am materials engineer with an extensive background that ties to infrastructure. I own and operate multiple companies, and in my role I set budgets, engage in long term capital planning, preventative maintenance, manage personnel and engage in deep dive evaluations. I currently serve and have served on multiple boards both private and charitable. I have served on city council for four year, serving on and chairing committees.
  • Work Ethic, I take on tasks with dedication and energy. I am recognized as being a methodical and dependable member of the team. I am always committed to whatever task assigned, my colleagues know that I always deliver on what I say and I have the best attendance record of any active member of council. Above and beyond the work, I am a focused communicator. I put out clear concise reports for both the administration and residents so they know exactly what to expect.
I love problem solving, so I like to focus my attention wherever it can produce the biggest impact.

That said, with my background as an engineer, I am particularly interested and suited for tackling infrastructure challenges.

I am someone who loves numbers, so fiscal issues, long term budgeting and tackling legacy financial challenges is an area of passion. Particularly as someone who loves living in Grosse Pointe Park, I am very passionate about addressing legacy challenges to chart long term sustainable outlooks.
There are few offices that are as closely tied to the people being impacted by the decision making.
This is local government in it's most pure form, the decision making is not separated from the constituency by distance. We are directly impacting people and see the consequences immediately and not through some filter.
Understanding the Scope of the Position

Having a Resume of pertinent competency and experience

Having a drive and Work Ethic to put in the effort needed.
A commitment to making long term decisions and being willing to weather criticism in order to follow through on sound governance.
If anything, people should be aware of the limitations of the office. Far to often people overestimate the breadth of authority of a council, it is critical that people appreciate the limiting principals of the city charter. When you appreciate the context of the allowable actions then you can dig down and appreciate that real impact takes long term planning and implementation and a simple declaration of intent doesn't change things.
Experience and resume is always beneficial. I will reiterate how important it is to understand the scope of the role, so in that sense being engaged in government and politics afford one of the clearest opportunities for people to be exposed to what the roles entail.

That said, there are lots of people coming from government and politics that don't respect the actual scope of the role they are running for. Furthermore, municipal government is very different from the day to day experience of people in the private sector, so broader experience is always beneficial.
There are a wide range of relevant skills, and running for a position on a 7 person board, not everyone needs to have the same skills.
However, the single most useful skill set for a member of council is financial literacy, being able to read a balance sheet and digest and comprehend short and long term budgeting is absolutely imperative.
The proximity to the constituents.
There is no role in government that is more closely tied to the constituents and has a more readily available feedback loop.
Being an active and engaged father.
Whether it is teaching them to read, praying with them, coaching them in sports, showing them how to cook and prepare their own meals. There is nothing more amazing than teaching your children and watching them learn and grow.
