|A committed believer in the vitality of Roanoke’s local economy, Maynard is President of American Financial Planning, a business he has owned and operated for over 15 years. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Maynard has proudly provided his services to the Roanoke Valley for many years. He knows the needs of small businesses and understands the challenges they face.
With many years of financial success in the business world, Maynard hopes to transfer his expertise into eliminating government waste and fraud and creating a safer, economically healthier, and brighter city for Roanokers.- Let's make Roanoke Safe. We need to fill all open positions for our police officers and firefighters. Last I heard there are 46-96 vacancies in the police force. Let's raise their starting pay to $55,000 to be competitive. Roanoke has higher risks, therefore our officers deserve higher pay. Why do we have difficulty recruiting experienced police officers and firefighters? Because surrounding localities are part of the VRS--The Virginia Retirement System--and would lose pension benefits by working for the City of Roanoke. I propose that Public Safety be part of the VRS instead of the city's pension plan. We can then recruit experienced officers from across Virginia. This is a game changer.
- It's time we have an elected school board in Roanoke City. Appointing school board members just gives us more of the same failed policies. We need innovative ideas from people from all walks of life and diverse viewpoints. Let the citizens decide.
- Let's make Roanoke Affordable. Real estate taxes are through the roof. We need major tax reform through my proposal, Truth in Taxation.
Virginia spends over 6.7 billion dollars annually on health care costs attributable to obesity.
