An effort in Chico, California, to recall Mayor Randall Stone and City Councilor Karl Ory was initiated in May 2019. Petitioners had until November 26, 2019, to submit enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot.[1]
Recall supporters
The recall effort began in response to the city council's 4-1 decision to remove Chico from a list of cities in support of Assembly Bill 430, which looked to streamline the approval process for housing developments within Biggs, Chico, Gridley, Orland and Oroville.[1]
Recall opponents
Ory accused the recall effort of being political. He said, "This clique would have found any reason to go after council members that don't agree with them."[2]
