An effort in Friend, Nebraska, to recall Mayor Jewels Knoke and Councilmembers Phyllis Ryan and Shane Stutzman was initiated in 2020. Recall organizers failed to submit enough signatures to put the recall election on the ballot.[1]

Recall supporters

The recall effort was initiated in response to a state audit that found $1.4 million was misused by former city utility superintendent Patrick Gates, who had been significantly overpaying for supplies from a distributor. The Friend City Council voted to terminate Gates and City Clerk Debbie Gilmer after the audit was released.[2]
