Hialeah, Florida, held a primary election for mayor on November 7, 2017. A general election was scheduled for November 21, 2017, but it was not necessary because incumbent Carlos Hernandez won a majority of the vote in the primary.[1] The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 31, 2017.[2]

Hialeah voters weighed in on two local ballot measures in November 2017. One measure proposed amending the city charter to give the city council the power to sell unimproved city land, and the other proposed granting the council permission to sell a particular piece of city property on West 20th Street. Voters also cast ballots in two city council races. Incumbent Katharine "Katy" Cue-Fuente defeated one challenger, Rafael Gomez, to win re-election to the Group VII seat on the city council. Carl Zogby bested three other candidates in the open race to replace term-limited Group V Councilman Luis Gonzalez.[1] Group VI Councilman Paul "Pablito" Hernandez's seat was also up for election in 2017, but he won re-election automatically when no other candidates filed to run against him.[3] Click here to read more about Hialeah's 2017 city council elections.
