Despite coming out behind in the general election, homemaker Mindy McClure won the trust of voters in Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District's runoff election on June 13, 2015. The runoff became necessary when neither she nor returning candidate Mark Assaad was able to garner 50 percent plus one of the vote in the district's general election on May 9, 2015.

Grapevine-Colleyville was the only district in the country's largest 1,000 by enrollment to hold a runoff election in Texas. The district had two seats up for election in May. In the Place 1 race, the pair edged out writer Kathleen Thompson, who was narrowly defeated with 29 percent of the district's vote. Assaad came out on top with about 37 percent, and McClure trailed with 34 percent. Incumbent Becky St. John triumphed over lawyer Jesse Hoffman to secure the Place 2 seat.[1]

It is unclear whether campaign finance played a role in this election; however, as of the most recent June 5 report, McClure claimed just over $5,100 in expenditures to Assaad's $1,600. On the other hand, McClure lagged behind in contributions, with only $600 in donations. Assaad received $2,530 in contributions and the endorsement of the Metroplex bureau of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility. McClure did not receive any notable endorsements.[2][3]

McClure will replace incumbent Kimberley Davis, who did not file for re-election. Unofficial totals indicate that McClure won with 54.6 percent of the vote.[1]
